UUID Generator

Generate random version 4 UUID identifiers.

What this tool does

Generate random version 4 UUID identifiers. The tool uses crypto.randomUUID when available. Its fallback fills 16 random bytes with crypto.getRandomValues and sets the version and variant bits. Formatting options control dashes and letter case, and the batch filters duplicates within the generated set.

How to use UUID Generator

  1. Prepare the input. Set the quantity and display formatting.
  2. Run or configure the tool. Select Generate.
  3. Check and use the output. Copy the identifiers and enforce uniqueness in the system that stores them when required.

How this tool works

The tool uses crypto.randomUUID when available. Its fallback fills 16 random bytes with crypto.getRandomValues and sets the version and variant bits. Formatting options control dashes and letter case, and the batch filters duplicates within the generated set.

Worked example

Input: Quantity 5; lowercase; dashes enabled

Output: Five distinct strings shaped like xxxxxxxx-xxxx-4xxx-yxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx, where y is 8, 9, a or b.

Limits, assumptions and interpretation

Random UUIDs have a very low collision probability, not an absolute uniqueness guarantee across all systems.

  • UUIDs are identifiers, not passwords, authorization tokens or proof of identity.
  • Generation requires browser cryptographic randomness; unsupported browsers report an error.
  • Changing case or removing dashes changes representation, not the UUID’s underlying value.
