From a blank canvas to a clear diagram

Sketch and arrange

Use a rectangle for each step in a process, connect the steps with arrows, and add text labels. Select shapes to move, resize or style them. The hand tool pans the canvas.

Save and reopen

The canvas autosaves in this browser. Use File → Save to… → Save to file to download an editable .excalidraw board. Use File → Open to continue from the file.

Export an image

Choose Export to download PNG or SVG for a presentation, document or message. The optional embedded scene keeps an editable board inside supported exports.

How it works

  1. Open the editor and choose a shape or the pencil.
  2. Drag on the canvas to draw. Press V to select and arrange your work.
  3. Save an editable board for backup, then export an image when you want to share it.

Example: make three rectangles labelled Idea, Draft and Review, then connect them with two arrows to explain your workflow.

Local storage and practical limits

Drawings and imported images are processed on your device. This edition has no accounts, cloud sync, remote collaboration, analytics or file uploads. Network embeds and remote URL imports are unavailable.

Browser storage may be cleared, and a drawing in one browser is not automatically available on another. Export a board before clearing site data or moving from the previous Whiteboard site. Large diagrams and images depend on your device memory and available storage.

The browser editor exports PNG, SVG and editable board files. It does not provide a PDF exporter.

Frequently asked questions

Can I work without signing in?

Yes. Open the editor and draw directly. Your work saves locally in this browser.

How do I move a drawing to another device?

Save an .excalidraw board from the File menu, transfer that file yourself, then open it in the other browser.

What should I share?

Use PNG for a familiar image format, SVG when you need scalable artwork, and .excalidraw when you want to keep editing.
