A practical workflow

Prepare your assignment for submission

Start with the actual submission instructions and your source material. This workflow prepares a file; you still upload it through your own portal and confirm acceptance.

Follow the branches that match your material

  1. Do you know the submission requirements?

Check permitted format, required pages, size limit, filename and any word or character limit. If these are unclear, consult the assignment or portal instructions before changing files.

  2. Does a written draft need a length check?

If yes, check only the included sections. Otherwise skip this step. For a DOCX or other editable document, export a PDF from its original editor; these tools do not supply DOCX-to-PDF conversion.

  3. Is it already one valid PDF with the right pages?

If yes, skip image conversion and merging and continue to the final size check. If its pages need changing, use the existing-PDF preparation workflow. If the source is images or several PDFs, follow the next branches.

  4. Are your assignment pages images?

Check legibility and orientation. Crop unwanted edges only if needed; resize or compress oversized photos only if the writing remains readable. Arrange JPEG/PNG images and create a PDF. Keep originals until the output has been checked.

  5. Must several PDFs become one file?

If yes, merge them in the required order. For a mixture of images and PDFs, convert the images first, then merge that output with the other PDFs. If one PDF already contains everything, skip merging.

  6. Is the final PDF above the stated byte limit?

If it meets the limit, skip compression. Otherwise try PDF Compressor, download its output and measure again. If it is still too large or becomes larger, revisit source image dimensions/encoding or ask about accepted alternatives. Do not discard required pages simply to reach a limit.

  7. Have you opened the exact file you will submit?

Check every page for completeness, orientation, order and readable text. Confirm filename, format and actual size. Upload through your portal and check its preview or receipt; this site cannot confirm submission for you.

Make the handoff explicit

Each tool works separately. Download the output, give it a recognizable filename, then select that file in the next tool. Do not accidentally select the original when you intended to use a revised copy.

One correct PDF is a valid starting point

Using more tools is not a quality check. If the document already meets the instructions, verification and submission are the remaining tasks.

Put the choice into practice

Worked example

Starting point
Three JPEG answer pages and a one-page PDF cover sheet. The example portal allows up to 5,000,000 bytes.
Decision and expected result
Convert the three ordered images to a three-page PDF. Merge the cover first: the result has four pages. Measure the saved file; if it is within the stated limit, skip compression. The example predicts page count, not a guaranteed output size.

What this does not guarantee

  • The workflow neither submits an assignment nor guarantees portal acceptance.
  • Image to PDF creates image-based pages with no OCR.
  • PDF compression cannot guarantee a target size; requirements must come from the actual submission instructions.
