Rotate a clip and choose the output shape

Rotation turns a clip on the canvas. This is what fixes a phone clip that was recorded sideways, or places a landscape shot inside a vertical frame.

Open the editor The editor needs a desktop Chrome or Edge browser.

How it works in the editor

  1. Import and select

Add the clip to the timeline and click it so its properties appear on the right-hand panel.

  2. Rotate

Use the rotation control to turn the clip. The preview updates immediately, so you can see how much of the frame the rotation costs you.

  3. Reposition and scale

Drag the clip on the canvas to move it, and use the scale handles to fill the frame after rotating.

  4. Set the canvas

In project settings choose the output aspect ratio and resolution, for example 1080×1920 for a vertical video.

  5. Export

The exported MP4 uses the canvas size you chose, with the clip rotated exactly as previewed.

Questions

Will rotating reduce quality?

The rotation itself is a transform, but scaling the clip up to fill a differently shaped canvas enlarges the source pixels and softens the image.

Can I rotate one clip but not another?

Yes. Rotation is a property of each clip, so different clips on the same timeline can have different orientations.

Can I flip a video?

The transform panel handles rotation, position and scale. Mirroring is not exposed as a separate switch.
