Trim a video without re-encoding the whole file by hand
Trimming shortens a clip in time: you keep the middle and drop the start, the end, or both. In OpusDesk Hub Video Studio you trim by dragging a clip's edge on the timeline, and the preview shows exactly what will be exported.
Open the editor The editor needs a desktop Chrome or Edge browser.
How it works in the editor
Import the clip
Add your video to the media panel, then drag it onto a video track.
Drag the left edge
Pull the left handle to the right to remove the beginning. The preview follows the playhead, so you can judge the cut by eye.
Drag the right edge
Pull the right handle left to drop the tail. The clip's remaining duration is shown on the timeline.
Check the audio
Trim moves the video and its sound together. Play across the new cut to confirm nothing is clipped mid-word.
Export
Export an MP4 at 720p, 1080p or a size you choose. Only the trimmed range is rendered.
Limits worth knowing
- Trimming changes the clip's length, not the picture's framing. To remove part of the image, the framing has to be changed instead — this editor does not have a general crop tool.
- Cut points land on frame boundaries, so a cut can differ from what you asked for by up to one frame.
Questions
Does trimming re-encode my video?
The export is re-encoded from the trimmed timeline, which is what makes frame-accurate cuts and mixed sources possible. Your original file on disk is untouched.
Can I trim several clips at once?
Yes. Each clip on the timeline has its own edges, so you can trim as many as you like and preview the whole sequence before exporting.
Can I undo a trim?
Yes. Every trim is a history step, so Ctrl+Z restores the previous length.
