Split a clip at the playhead, then delete or reorder the parts

Splitting cuts a clip into two independent clips at the playhead. Once a clip is split you can delete a part, move the parts around, or drop something else between them.

Open the editor The editor needs a desktop Chrome or Edge browser.

How it works in the editor

  1. Position the playhead

Drag the playhead in the timeline, or play the clip and pause, until it sits exactly where you want the cut.

  2. Select the clip

Click the clip so it is highlighted. The split action applies to the selected clip.

  3. Split

Use the split tool or the keyboard shortcut. The clip becomes two clips that can be edited independently.

  4. Remove or reorder

Select the part you do not want and delete it, or drag the parts along the track to change the order. Other clips close the gap automatically.

  5. Export the result

The exported MP4 follows the timeline order exactly, including any clip you removed.

Questions

What is the difference between trimming and splitting?

Trimming shortens a clip by moving its edges. Splitting produces two clips so you can treat the halves differently, for example deleting the middle of a recording.

Can I remove the middle of a video?

Yes. Split twice — once at the start of the unwanted section and once at its end — then select the middle clip and delete it.

Can I reorder clips?

Yes. Drag clips along their track or onto another track; the timeline order is what gets exported.
